While Apple revealed several new products at yesterday’s Apple Event, including the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, most of the world’s attention has been drawn to the launch of the new iPhone X (pronounced iPhone 10).

The price
If you are thinking about purchasing the iPhone X then you are looking at a price tag of a whopping £999 for 64GB or £1,149 for 256GB. This is the most expensive of all iPhone models and this has now brought us into the era of the £1,000 smartphones. It has been pointed out that the phone is going to cost more for people in the UK and Europe than it is in the US…
Might a few more shopping trips across the Atlantic be on the cards this autumn?
When can you get it?
The iPhone X will be available to preorder in the UK from October 27th and will be generally released on November 3rd. Not much time to get saving…
So what’s new?
As predicted, the iPhone’s iconic home button and fingerprint scanner have been dropped. Instead, the iPhone X has a screen which covers almost the entire front of the phone.
Most of the functionality of the home button, such as activating Siri, will be relocated to the lock switch and it uses gesture controls to unlock. Users can control the phone through swiping up from the bottom or just by tapping the screen.
To replace the finger scanner they have installed an infrared face recognition system to identify users. This will also work with Apple Pay and other apps that work with Touch ID.
Like its main rival the Samsung 8, the new iPhone will come with wireless charging.
Apple also announced a wireless charging pad, the AirPower, which will be able to charge multiple devices at once. This will be released next year.
For those emoji lovers out there, Apple have developed the Animoji: a new form of moving emoji that can be customised using facial recognition software. Users can scan their face and the animoji will match their expression in a short animation.
